World Health Day – Sugar

This year for World Health Day, PARO is echoing the World Health Organization’s campaign to raise awareness concerning diabetes. This disease is related to high levels of blood sugar and insulin deficiency, and its complications can seriously affect the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and nerves.

The disease currently affects more than 350 million people worldwide, which reaffirms its status as a global health issue that concerns us all. Moreover, the majority of diabetes-related deaths occur in low- to middle-income countries.

As pharmacy professionals, let’s don our superhero capes, our lab coats, and #beatdiabetes!

Pharmacists play a pivotal role in halting the spread of diabetes due to their frequent interactions and close proximity with patients. Patient education is essential, but healthy lifestyle habits should also be emphasized. Not only can they delay the onset of symptoms of type 2 diabetes, but they can also contribute to preventing it. As such, reducing sugar intake, adopting a nutritious, healthy diet, being physically active, and avoiding tobacco products are some of the super powers hidden within us all!

Great work, superheroes! Thanks for following our lipid-sodium-sugar series! Feel free to share our blog post and publication on social media by using #IPSFparo #IPSFaware #diabetes!
